By Rabbi Daniel Schonbuch, LMFT

There are so many diet programs that claim you can lose weight, but most people find them disappointing. You may temporarily lose a few pounds here and there, just to find yourself caught yo-yoing between deprivation and overeating.

I myself struggled with emotional eating for years and tried various programs including weight watchers, keto etc., but nothing worked.

This all changed when I started following the work of Dr. Joel Furhman, MD, and the Eat to Live program. Within several months of starting on a whole foods, plant-based diet I lost over 30 pounds and have kept it off for over a year!

I decided to make a difference and help people lose weight and lead healthier lives. In order to do so, Dr. Joel Fuhrman and I have partnered to offer our community the Viktor Frankl Diet and Emotional Eating Life Coaching Program starting on May 23 accredited by the International Coaching Federation.

Dr. Fuhrman will be teaching the science of nutrition and I will be teaching strategies to help reduce emotional eating. We will also be joined by Tanya Rosen, the owner of Nutrition by Tanya.

Why create an accredited coaching program that focuses on diet, weight loss and emotional eating? Overeating, obesity, and diabetes are the most important medical issues facing the Jewish community. The implications for the increase in cardiovascular disease, yene machala, and related health issues are immense.

The truth is that most diet programs are not successful. Why is that? One reason is that anytime we ask people to limit their caloric intake they can only do so for a short period of time. They often bounce back and overcompensate by overeating and gaining even more weight!

The other reason is that many who are overweight struggle with emotional eating and most nutritionists do not offer powerful strategies on how to change habitual eating patterns.

On the Viktor Frankl Diet & Emotional Eating Life Coaching Program, you will learn from Dr. Joel Fuhrman and others what the latest science is saying about losing weight, exercise, stress reduction, emotional eating and the power of a whole food, plant-based diet.

Dr. Joel Fuhrman, M.D. is a board-certified family physician, seven-time New York Times best-selling author and internationally recognized expert on nutrition and natural healing. He specializes in preventing and reversing disease through nutritional methods and a whole foods/plant-based approach.

Tanya Rosen, MA is the owner of Nutrition by Tanya and an expert in weight loss and controlling emotional eating.

After you learn about the science of weight loss, as a psychologist, I will share with you the most advanced techniques in psychology for weight loss and how to help others (and yourself!) reduce and eliminate emotional eating.

You will learn fundamental coaching skills that help reduce emotional eating based on the five principles of my new workshop including:

Identifying and expressing emotions

Responding to sabotaging thoughts

Overcoming childhood traumas

Creating new core beliefs

Finding new meaning in your life (Viktor Frankl)
